On Saturday 18 November we continued our creative programme Chai and the City with a tea party at Pickford’s House Museum as part of My Cup of Tea, a heritage project which explores the traditions and customs associated with drinking tea in Britain. We spoke to so many interesting people about tea in India and Britain and the links between them. Some people had never tried chai tea before and left inquisitive comments and questions. We also delivered an offsite Innocence & Expression session with artist Michelle Reader leading the group and drop in session for children to create fabulous animals and creative creatures. It was great to meet so many new faces and celebrate the final day of the Chai and the City exhibition at Pickford’s House.
My Cup of Tea examines the subject of tea and the part it plays in British society and how its significance has evolved over the years. The project will involve various levels of engagement through community participation, historical exploration and artistic practice. There will be tea parties, research sessions, trips and oral history recordings.
